Sarcoidosis of the elderly

Sarcoidosis is a kind of granulomatous disease with unknown cause. T lymphocytes and mononuclear macrophages are activated at the lesion site, involving multiple systems. Clinically, bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy and lung involvement are the most common, followed by eye and skin involvement. Lesions can also affect other parts of the lymph nodes, liver, spleen, heart, parotid gland, bone and other organs. The diagnosis of this disease depends on histopathological confirmation, excluding tuberculosis, fungal infection and other granulomatous lesions. Glucocorticoid is the main therapeutic drug, which can inhibit the formation of inflammation and granuloma, alleviate clinical symptoms and control the progress of the disease.
